Was Obama intentionally trying to dupe naive voters, or did he even believe his rhetoric as a candidate?

I think that many, especially so many of the young people who worked so hard for him, really believed what he said. On the other hand, other groups like gays really believed that he was just playing the game when he said that he believed in traditional marriage and a really annoyed for the opposite reason. It was so easy for so many to turn to him because they were so annoyed with Bush. Sadly, the the two things Obama seems to want the most are to have power and to be liked. How he gets there seems almost inconsequential.
