(Ok I'm doing this off from memory) Like Pecola Mrs. Breedlove was not self confident in herself because she wants to be white, she doesn't say it aloud but you can tell in the way she acts. Like the time she went to the movies and when she saw this specific actress she started to dress and do her hair just like the actress. She wishes to have a "nuclear family" like the white family she worked for when she was young. That's why she kind of a neat freak and has everything organized. But the couch in their home that has a torn in the middle is a symbol that she has an unstable family. She asked Mr. Breedlove to get rid of it but he doesn't want too which proves the trouble in their family will remain.
